Get a front row seat to contemporary Italian culture at New Italian Cinema 2018, bringing Italy’s newest directors, veteran actors and filmmakers to the Bay Area, November 30-December 2. We invite you to join us at the Vogue Theatre for a dynamic film festival showcasing the best new films from Italy, the country that has won the highest number of Foreign Language Academy Awards. A seat at New Italian Cinema offers a unique window into Italy’s contemporary life and rich traditions. Highlights include Francesco Falaschi’s Opening Night Film AS NEEDED, a culinary road trip to Florence (director in person on November 30); Andrea Magnani’s epic comic drama EASY, about a man who attempts to transport a coffin from Italy to Ukraine (director in person); Dario Albertini’s feature debut MANUEL, a portrait of a young man undertaking big responsibilities; and Antonio Padovan’s THE LAST PROSECCO, a thriller set in the Veneto region where Prosecco is grown. On Closing Night, December 2, the festival showcases two award winning documentaries: Enrico Maisto’s THE CALL, about a day in the life of jurors at Milan’s highest court and Silvia Bellotti’s OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, an exceptional documentary that chronicles a few days in the main housing office in Naples, with humor and humanity.
